Instructional design

Great learning begins with solid foundations. This is where instructional design comes in. With a strong understanding of adult learning theory and instructional design models, I work to a C.A.R format, Context, Activity, Reflection.

I strongly believe that learning should feel relatable and relevant and that there can be plenty of opportunities for reflection even when learning is completed as an individual.

My instructional design services include:

• Scoping - I will plan the structure, learning outcomes and framework of your learning, based on the topic, knowledge of your learners and objectives. This also includes identifying the best method for your learning, based on your current offering, budget and the topic / learning outcomes. Methods could include but are not limited to: asynchronous digital learning such eLearning; synchronous digital such as virtual classrooms; PDF documents; in-person workshops and face to face sessions.

• Content development - Once you are happy with the scope of the learning, I will then develop the content. This is sometimes referred to as ‘storyboarding’. During this stage I will write the learning content, including detail of interactivity, media and animation. You will need to provide a subject matter expert (SME) for this stage - this is someone who has expert knowledge on the topic of learning. I will work closely with your SME to ensure content is accurate and representative of the chosen topic.

• Script writing - For video or audio content, a script may be necessary. This will be written in conjunction with the content development stage. This can then be passed onto a voiceover artist for recording.
